Serpentin Vert

My big project spring 2025 was taking one of my favorite fairy tales -- "Serpentin Vert" by Madame d'Aulnoy -- and illustrating six scenes.

It's a wild story -- there's an ugly curse, then a Cupid and Psyche section where "Cupid"/"Beast" is a dragon, a doll-puppet war, a grove of people-transformed-into-animals, and then a whole impossible tasks section. I love it so much.

I actually did a quick (long) rewrite of the story to go with this, and changed a few things along the way. I still need to go back to the story and color the last 5 with watercolor, but that's a project for another day. I gave the pieces French names in reference to the story's origin, and to be pretentious.

Fairy Tale Illustrations

These are a series of illustrations I made for several fairy and folk tales. I tried to stick to a more graphic, flat language for maximum impact and simplicity, and went with a tritone color scheme for each to emphasize a sort of "poster" quality.

Bones Rock! Illustrations

In the summer of 2024 I had the opportunity to create illustrations for the new edition of "Bones Rock!" by Peter Larson and Kristin Donnan! This was a really awesome experience that taught me a lot about book illustration and how to create a large number of smaller artworks aimed at children and education, and I feel so honored to have been a part of it. Here I'm including a few of my favorites, but there are more in the book!

I modeled my illustrations after Dorothy Norton Kashuba's original pieces so the book would remain consistent, and I owe so much credit to her charming artworks. I hope I did them justice!

A quick correction: as of March 2025 the book it says I received two Bachelor's degrees -- that's a misprint! I received one Bachelor's with a double major!

Misc. Illustrations

Ink illustration of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with layered images. On the outside: a ship, ice floes and a figure riding on a sled, Frankenstein in a bed, and the monster holding Frankenstein. Next ring is Elizabeth and the monster on either side of Frankenstein, who pores over a book. Roses near Elizabeth, warped anatomy near the monster. At the bottom of that circle Frankenstein reaches for the monster, who wraps his hands around a screaming Elizabeth's neck. The next rung is the De Laceys' house, the monster below in darkness reaching for them, holding one of Frankenstein's journals. The innermost circle (modeled after a womb) is the monster compressed to a circle, looking out at the viewer with anguish.
